Welcome to Neo-Cybernetics

An introduction to who we are, what we're exploring, and why we think these ideas matter now more than ever.

The Editors

Welcome, cybernaut. You’ve found the nexus.

This is the first post in what we hope will be a long and winding conversation about systems, complexity, and the futures we’re building, whether we mean to or not.

Why now?

Cybernetics is having a quiet renaissance. After decades on the margins of mainstream thought, its core ideas (feedback, emergence, requisite variety, circular causality) are suddenly everywhere. Climate scientists talk about tipping points and cascades. Technologists debate alignment and control. Ecologists map resilience. Policymakers struggle with complexity they cannot fully model.

We think these threads belong together. That’s what Neo-Cybernetics is for.

What to expect

We’ll be publishing articles that explore:

  • Foundational concepts: what cybernetics actually says, and what it doesn’t
  • Contemporary applications: where these ideas show up in real-world challenges
  • Connections and edges: where cybernetics meets ecology, design, philosophy, and beyond
  • Community thinking: pieces from our contributors across disciplines

Join the conversation

Neo-Cybernetics is deliberately open. If you have something to say (an essay, a provocation, a question worth exploring) we want to hear it.

Intelligere, Conciliare, Evolvere.
